We're glad you have stopped to see our school district's website. Our district enrolls over 1,250 students in three buildings, enrolling students in pre-school through the 12th grade. We are continually improving our students' academic achievement, which allows us to attract students from outside of our community. We are located in the Township of Grass Lake, in Jackson County in the the south-central area of Michigan just off of Interstate 94, approximately 50 miles west of Detroit and 10 miles east of Jackson.

We take pride in our efforts to form reciprocal relationships with our community and its businesses. In 2008 we greeted Jackson Community College into our buildings to allow convenient access to life-long learning for our community members. To improve our extension efforts, our school district has recently initiated a Community and Cooperative Services department to help fill the educational and enrichment needs of our constituency.

The Village of Grass Lake retains its turn-of-the-century beauty and charm, while our township and village boards work hard to allow us to offer a charming environment, while we continute to enjoy the conviences of modern. All of this is in cooperation with the Grass Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Grass Lake Downtown Development Authority.

Our community has an excellent mix of enterprises as agriculture remains a key component to our economy, while we expand our light manufacturing foothold and our retail bases. We are in close proximity to shopping and transportation modes. We have initiated a Five-Year Multi-Jurisdictional Recreation Plan to guide us toward offering our community the best in recreational facilities. Along with our own lake, we are surrounded by many other lakes, golf courses, biking trails, and other recreational venues. We are also only minutes away from the 20,500 acre Waterloo Recreation Area.
We love living here and we think you will, too. Stop in and see us. Let us show you what we enjoy everyday!

Our Vision: Individual excellence inspired by tradition and innovation

Our Mission:
The mission of Grass Lake Community Schools is to provide a quality learning environment which will empower all students to meet their individual needs, discover their potential, and gain essential skills that will enable them to become responsible contributing citizens of our world.

Census, 2010 Is HERE. It Is Very Important To Be Counted.
Every 10 years the Census Bureau counts the entire United States population. Being counted in the census is important for every community, no matter where you live. It is very important to the community that we have full participation in the census. The distribution of federal funds can be affected by the census count. Every year, the federal government can allocate awards more than $400 billion to states and communities based in part, on the census data. This data affects school budgets, including the distribution of Title I funding and college tuition grant and loan programs. Community planners use census data to determine where to build new schools, develop public transportation and create new roads. Please be looking for a 10 question questionnaire to arrive in March.   Take a few minutes to fill it out and mail it back. This information is very important and confidential. Click here to find an interactive page about the census online. Click here to see how the census affects Jackson County.

Parents Offer Support to School District in the Face of Potential Additional Budget Cuts
At the Monday, December 14 Grass Lake Community Schools Board of Education meeting, parents expressed their interest in supporting the Board in decisions that will be made in the upcoming months regarding further budget cuts from the State. They said that they understand how difficult these decisions will be and they trust the Board's direction. They see Grass Lake as an "island" of opportunity where by working together we can achieve a positive outcome. The parents pledged their time to work politically to help solve the current education funding crisis. "Save Our Students, Schools, and State" (SOS) is an organization made up of school employees, parents, and interested citizens working together on these problems.
